Hello to all Yuuma fans across the country. Today we have a rare shot of Yuuma with a serious expression on his face as captain. Feel free to take a screenshot and use it!
Starting this year, he has been given the title of chief guide, and his skills and responsibilities are rapidly increasing!
On the other hand, the owner, Totti, has always been a bit of a shadow, but as the younger generation grows, he is becoming even more obscure, and is soon to be out of sight. But he is working hard, not wanting to be outdone. First of all, the blog!!
Today, the dolphins had plenty of fun for the first time in a while, so I thought I'd write about the latest dolphin situation in Miyakojima.
Last year's (2018) dolphin situation
First of all, spinner dolphins began staying here to raise their young in the fall of 2016, but their range of activity, appearance rate, and habits change every year, so I would like to start by looking back at last year.
Last year, from spring to summer, things were going great and we were able to see them every day for a week, and we even had encounters about 5 to 10 times a month, so we were able to have fun with lots of guests.
What's more, 99% of the time they appeared in the Irabu Island area, so we were able to hit the target!
However, since the typhoon in the fall, they have become increasingly rare and it felt like the season ended just like that.
The situation regarding dolphins this year (2019)
They first appeared in the Irabu Island area, so I thought they would be limited to Irabu Island this year too! However, they have recently started appearing in the Shimoji Island area as well, and recently the number of spots is about half and half.
And the encounter rate, which was low, has recently improved to about once every three days! It would be great if they continue to play frequently like this.
How to play with dolphins in Miyakojima
Although it's not guaranteed that you'll see them, it's not impossible, so if you have the opportunity to dive in Miyakojima, you can look forward to it.
Being prepared when the time comes will make a big difference in the amount of enjoyment you can have and the quality of the photos you can take, so I hope you will find this information useful.
How to play with dolphins (underwater)
First of all, it is extremely rare to encounter them underwater. At BIGHOLIDAY, we have only had two underwater encounters in the last three years, so you can assume that you can hardly expect to see them, but if you do encounter them,
I definitely recommend video!! Photos are blurry and it's difficult to adjust the settings quickly. If you spend too much time on that, you won't be able to take a photo, let alone look at it carefully.
With video, you can take pictures to a certain extent without having to adjust the focus or make any settings, and you can also enjoy watching the dolphins with your own eyes.
By the way, I tried several times to get them to swim with me while skin diving and snorkeling, but they didn't play with me. Spinner dolphins are not a species that likes to play, so it may be difficult after all.
How to play with dolphins (on board)

This is pretty much how you'll encounter dolphins in Miyakojima! Don't worry, it's exciting enough even from the boat. We'll show you everything from positioning yourself to tips on how to take photos.
First, when a staff member calls out "Ilkar!!", everyone gathers on the second floor deck! It's easy to see where the riders are, and it's also the best place to see the jumps and other spectacular performances.

This photo was taken with a SLR camera, but not many people carry one around, so my next recommendation is an iPhone camera!!!
If you use the high-speed continuous shooting function, I think you can take some pretty amazing photos. The performance of recent iPhone cameras is amazing. In this situation, an iPhone is definitely better than a compact digital camera!
You can easily shoot jumping scenes!
After enjoying the second floor deck, head to the best seats.

Anyway, gather at the bow!
Sometimes they appear behind or to the side, but basically, once we spot the dolphins, the boat heads towards them from the bow, so the bow is the hottest spot.
And what awaits you after this?

The Bow Ride Show has begun!!
If you want to see dolphins, you'd be missing out if you don't experience this! You can really see them swimming and jumping right in front of you. Even from above the water, you can see the dolphins swimming and frolicking with pleasure from this distance.

At this point, you can take as many photos and videos as you want in unrivaled mode!
The sense of speed and realism of looking directly down from a moving boat can only be experienced here. What's more, you can see wild dolphins just 2 meters away, not at an aquarium.
Just being able to see dolphins in between dives is a luxury and amazing thing, but if you have the chance, I want you to see them from this distance. I want you to experience it for yourself.
We will definitely take the time to encounter dolphins if they are willing to let us in, so be sure to enjoy the best experience in the special seats right at the front of the boat.

I'm sure you'll love the ocean more than ever before.
See you tomorrow.
