According to statistical averages, the rainy season ends on June 20th, so it could end at any time now. I look up at the sky every morning, wondering when it will end, but I still don't feel quite refreshed.

Hello. I'm Totti, the owner of Sukkiri. My staff and wife used to make fun of me for being sloppy, so I started dieting and managed to lose 5kg. Just take a look. Relive the sparkle of my youth.

Now, as the seasons change to summer, the underwater world is becoming more and more lively. There are so many fish and it's so much fun!!

Large schools of various small fish, including golden-spotted fish and cardinalfish, appear.

A flock of golden-striped crickets

These fish have chosen to survive by swarming together in large numbers, hiding in the dark places such as cracks and caves, but not being able to hide completely, like a flowing river, thereby reducing the chances of each individual being eaten by a stronger prey.

They start appearing around this time of year, during the rainy season, and disappear by the end of summer. They are a symbol of summer, so when they appear, guides look forward to introducing them to their customers.

This alone is impressive enough, but if you look closely you will see many different dramas unfolding, so I would like you to take a look at these as well, so I would like to introduce them to you.

Survival of the fittest, a fight for survival where it's eat or be eaten

Civilization has become so advanced on land that it is extremely rare to see creatures struggling for survival, especially in Japan. However, the underwater world has remained almost untouched since ancient times,

The struggle for survival is commonplace everywhere, and the landscape is filled with primitive scenes where people only think about getting food and leaving offspring. It's inspiring.

Aggressive small fish hunter [Bluefin trevally]

Bluefin trevally

This beautiful medium-sized horse mackerel has distinctive yellowish halves and blue lines, and once you see it, you'll never forget it! Today, this one is the star of the show. It's a predator that's been devouring the golden-spotted tuna from earlier.

This fish has quite a fierce temperament, and is always swimming around buzzing here and there, probably because it's hungry. It usually swims slowly and unsteadily, but when it's in predatory mode, it charges forward at a speed that's hard to follow with the naked eye.

Bluefin trevally during preying

At this distance, I'm not going very fast yet, but I keep floating closer, and the moment I lock onto my target, bang!

It starts swimming again and then bang! It just keeps repeating.

It's hard to see if they're eating properly every time because they're moving so fast, but I don't think there's a very high chance they're eating properly. The people trying to eat are desperate, but the people trying to escape are even more desperate!!!

Goldeneye

Every time the silverside trevally charges in, the goldeneyes explode in all directions like fireworks.

If you watch closely, you'll see that the silverside trevally has only two attack patterns: from the front and from behind, and in both cases it charges in from almost the same angle every time.

It seems likely that they are making full use of two patterns that are most efficient and have the highest probability of success, taking advantage of rock walls and holes. I don't think it's a coincidence.

If you can read the pattern and wait patiently in the shade of a rock ahead when it will charge in, you will be able to see the impressive sight of the silverside trevally plunging through the golden-spotted trevally and charging in over and over again.

Miyakojima Diving Bluefin Trevally

It made a sharp turn right in front of the camera. Next time, I'll try it out by having a customer wait in the perfect position. It would be interesting to have them capture it not only in photos but also on video.

If you are taken to a school of goldeneyes like this, pay close attention to their movements and the fish around them. In addition to predators, there will also be cleaner fish and shrimp nearby, so you should be able to see a variety of dramatic scenes.

From now on, schools of small fish will start to gather in various places. You can enjoy the illusion of the topography and schools of fish, so please come and visit the island.

Well, summer is just around the corner.

See you tomorrow!
