Diving spots have different levels, and divers' licenses are also assigned different levels.

In order to enjoy diving safely, various courses are offered by diving certification organizations such as PADI and NAUI to train divers' skills, and the highest level for recreational divers is Divemaster.

This time, we will use PADI license levels as an example to introduce the purpose and participation requirements of the Divemaster course, which is the gateway to becoming a professional.

PADI licence levels are ranked as follows:

 

・PADI Scuba Diver

Dive to a depth of 12m with an instructor.

 

・Open Water Diver

This is the first certification you should aim for when starting diving, and allows you to buddy dive to depths of up to 18m.

 

・Advanced Open Water Diver

You can dive to a depth of 30m and gain confidence by experiencing a variety of diving techniques.

 

・Rescue diver

This is a level of license that will allow you to hone your skills while preventing problems that occur during normal diving.

 

・Master Scuba Diver

This is the highest level of amateur license.

The requirements are to have five specialties and have at least 5 dives under your belt.

 

・Dive master

This is the entry point for professionals, and licensed underwater guides can become licensed, and as you gain experience you will be able to hold trial dives and other events.

As a divemaster, you will be able to participate in a variety of activities as mentioned above, and you will be able to work in the diving industry and share the joy of diving with many people.

 

 

■ Prerequisites and course content for Divemaster course

Divemaster course content

For the PADI Divemaster course, the training time varies depending on the candidate, but is approximately 2 to 3 months.

There are six conditions to participate:

 

・PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent qualification

・PADI Rescue Diver or equivalent qualification

-Completed EFR Primary and Secondary Care Training or equivalent within the past 24 months

・Medical history/medical certificate (within 12 months) signed by a doctor to determine whether you are in good physical condition for diving

- A minimum of 40 completed dives in the logbook

・ Being over 18 years old

 

The Divemaster course includes knowledge development, underwater skill development, and practical application.

Particularly well-known underwater skills training include 15 minutes of standing water, 400m swimming, and 800m snorkeling.

Please make sure you understand and prepare in advance what you will be doing in the course, such as "search and recovery."

 

Many dive shops require you to be a divemaster or above to be hired.
