This is Totti, the owner, who finally got some water after a long time! Although I got some water, the temperature and water temperature have dropped again. The pork belly eggplant udon for lunch was so refreshing! When it's cold, you burn a lot of calories, so you get hungry quickly. It might be a good idea to sneak some snacks into your bag!
How to photograph sharks – with a compact digital camera
Sharks often appear on the HOLIDAY blog! They can actually be quite difficult to photograph, so we're sharing some useful information on how to capture them with a compact digital camera! What's more, we don't use a flash, so we use our own light to capture the images, so anyone should be able to do it!
Shooting mode
It would be nice if there was a shutter speed priority mode (AV mode), but most compact digital cameras don't have that mode, so I'll proceed by shooting in auto (P mode)!
Flash Settings
Take photos with a light, without using a flash. Always turn off the built-in flash. This is a golden rule. There is a high possibility that all of your photos will be ruined due to the halation phenomenon caused by white debris appearing in the image! Use your own light, or the guide will have a powerful light that will illuminate the sharks, so it's fine!
If you use your own light, it's quite technical, as you'll have to hold the light in one hand and the camera in the other. It might be better to rely on the guide's light instead. Also, always stay close to the guide. After a while, the distance between the guide and the shark will become closer.
Setting the ISO sensitivity
Even if the mode is set to auto, sharks are often in dark places, so the camera automatically slows down the shutter speed to let in more light. Camera manufacturers don't anticipate shooting in such dark underwater conditions, so the shutter speed slows down, resulting in blurry photos. Watching a swimming shark is as difficult as reading a manga while doing a handstand.
So, there is always an option called "ISO sensitivity," so you can force it to be between 1000 and 2000. This will automatically increase the shutter speed! The higher the sensitivity, the faster the shutter speed. However, if you increase the sensitivity too much, the image will become grainy, so it's up to your camera to decide what sensitivity you can use to take beautiful photos.
How to photograph sharks – SLR
As with the compact digital version, we will be using a light. Flash photography is prone to halation, so the success rate is lower in caves. Another reason is that it is difficult to adjust the direction of the flash in an instant. If you want to include blue cave light in the backgroundEspecially soLight photographyIt has to be that way.

Shooting mode
I'll explain how to take a beautiful photo with the highest probability. Set it to shutter speed priority. This will bring out the strengths of an SLR. In this mode, you cannot set the aperture. It will automatically be set to the widest aperture.
Shutter speed
Set it to 1/120 to 1/200. In reality, a faster setting would be better, but there is a limit to the sensitivity at which you can take beautiful photos, so it is set in a range that is less likely to shake. If you take photos on auto, the shutter speed will be around 1/30, so all of your photos will be blurry. If they are blurry, they will be discarded no matter what else is good, so it is important to check this.
ISO sensitivity
Set it to between 1000 and 2000. Mirrorless and SLR cameras have large sensors, so you can take beautiful photos even if you go over 1000! The key to success is knowing what sensitivity your camera can achieve beautifully! You can test it in a dark room, so be sure to come prepared.
Lighting is key
If you do decide to get a light, we recommend one with a wide beam of 1000 lumens or more! A fixed light is not recommended, as it will not be able to respond to the shark's sudden movements. Hold it handheld at arm's length as far away from the camera as possible, and adjust it so that the light is always hitting the shark.
It's quite technical, but if you can do this, all you have to do is think about the composition and press the shutter. Neutral buoyancy is an essential skill! So, all that's left is practice! If you tell the staff on site, "I want to take a beautiful picture of the shark!!"I'll do my best to take the photo. Osu!Be sure to take some close-up photos that will send hair-raising waves down your spine. That concludes my shark photography blog.
Nice holiday! Big holiday!
See you tomorrow~
